  10. WHISKERS SHAREWARE NOTICE:
  11.  
  12. Whiskers is being distributed in the shareware market, you are free to 
  13. make copies to pass along to others who might find Whiskers useful.  All 
  14. files (Whiskers.exe, Whiskers.dll, Invoice.txt and Whiskers.txt) must be 
  15. distributed together.

  17. If you find that you like Whiskers and find it useful in your work, you 
  18. are expected to pay a registration fee of $15.00 per copy.  An invoice 
  19. named INVOICE.TXT is included for your convenience.  Checks, Mastercard 
  20. and Visa are accepted for payment.  Open the Invoice.txt file with Note-
  21. pad, select File menu, Page Setup command and set all margins to 0.  Then
  22. select File menu, Print command to print the invoice.

  24. When your registration fee is received, a registration number and a paid 
  25. in full invoice will be sent to you.  When you receive your registration 
  26. number it is very important that you enter your registration number ex-
  27. actly as it appears on your invoice.  Technical support and site licenses

  36. WHISKERS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  37.  
  38. To install Whiskers, copy all of the files to the directory you want 
  39. Whiskers to be in.  Then use the File Manager or Program Manager to start
  40. Whiskers, using the Whiskers.exe file.  Whiskers.exe uses another file 
  41. (included with Whiskers) named Whiskers.dll.  The Whiskers.dll is a  
  42. Dynamic Linked Library.  Be sure to keep the Whiskers.exe and Whiskers.dll
  43. in the same directory. If you have an older version of Whiskers that used
  44. a file named Rodent.exe, please delete the Rodent.exe file.  Whiskers
  45. no longer needs it.

  47. To run Whiskers, double click on its icon in the Program Manager or the
  48. Whiskers.exe file in the File Manager.  Another Whiskers icon will appear
  49. at the botton of your screen.  At this point Whiskers is running and the 
  50. mouse button clicks are being captured and processed as the default set-
  51. tings.  To view or change the default settings, see the "Programming the
  52. Mouse Buttons" section below.

  54. PROGRAMMING THE MOUSE BUTTONS:
  55. 2 and 3 Button Mice
  56.  
  57. Click once on the Whiskers icon at the bottom of your screen and the sy-
  58. stem menu will pop up.  Select the Buttons... command and a dialog box 
  59. titled "Whisker's Mouse College" will appear.  The Right and Middle button 
  60. key combinations have been programmed with default key values.  You may 
  61. change any of these defaults that you wish.  For example, to program the 
  62. Right button to be the DELETE key, turn the checkbox on, then click on the 
  63. down arrow of the listbox that is in the "no shifts" row and in the Right
  64. button column.  Scroll the listbox until you find the DELETE entry and
  65. then select it.  Now press the OK button.  
  66.  
  67. To program the Shift+Right button combination, follow the same steps as
  68. above, but make your selection in the listbox in the "shift" row and right
  69. button column.  Follow these steps for programming each of the combina-
  70. tions.  Repeat these steps for programming the Middle button on a three 
  71. (3) button mouse.

  73. MIDDLE BUTTON SIMULATION:
  74.  
  75. Whiskers can simulate a Middle button on a two (2) button mouse.  To do 
  76. the middle button simulation press and hold down the right mouse button 
  77. and then QUICKLY click the left mouse button.  The left button will ac-
  78. tivate whatever key you have assigned to the "no shift middle button".  If 
  79. you find that the click rate is too fast or too slow for you, the click 
  80. rate can be changed in the Control Panel, Mouse section, Double Click Rate.
  81. To do the other middle button key combinations, press and hold down the 
  82. right button and any of the shift keys and then click the left button.  
  83. When you let up on the right button, the mouse will revert back to its 
  84. normal state.  To program the simulated Middle button, just follow the steps 
  85. for programming the middle button of a three (3) button mouse.

  87. The Shift Left click sequence may be assigned to the right or middle but-
  88. ton, but in some applications it will not work.  For example, in Excel, 
  89. Word for Windows and Notepad the Shift Left click assignment to the right 
  90. or middle button will produce the approperiate extended selection.  How-
  91. ever, in the File Manager, which uses Shift Left click for extended file
  92. selection, Whiskers will not work.  This problem Whiskers not working with 
  93. some applications is caused by the way those applications were written and 
  94. there is no way for Whiskers to get around this.

  96. The Left Double click sequence may be assigned to the right or middle but-
  97. ton, but in some cases it will not work correctly.  For example, in the
  98. Program Manager if you right click (right button is programmed to be Left
  99. Double click) on one of the group icons the group window will open, but the
  100. system menu will also appear.  When you close the system menu, the control 
  101. box (upper left corner) is in reverse video.  This problem does not inter-
  102. fer with the left double click functioning properly.  To correct the 
  103. reverse video effect, just move the group window a little and the problem 
  104. will correct itself.

  107. EXCLUSION LIST:
  108.  
  109. Click once on the Whiskers icon at the bottom of your screen and the 
  110. system menu will pop up.  Select Exclude... and a dialog box will appear.  
  111. Follow the instruction in the dialog box for excluding certain programs 
  112. from Whiskers attention.

  114. You can also turn Whiskers ON and OFF manually by double clicking on the
  115. Whiskers icon at the bottom of the screen.  Or Clicking once on the icon 
  116. at the bottom of the screen and then selecting Whiskers ON or OFF from 
  117. the system menu.

  119. TO EXCEL USERS:
  120.  
  121. A Rodent.exe has been marketed separately in the past as an Excel add in.
  122. If you have purchased the Rodent for Excel, just delete the Rodent.exe 
  123. file and any macros that you may be using.  Whiskers is a complete re-
  124. placement for the Rodent.
